Power in the House: Exercise Group

Connecting the mind and the spirit with the body, this Pilates-format exercise group meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday for an hour of vigorous fellowship.  A variety of DVD’s/videos workout routines are used to be sure all areas of the body are stretched and toned.  Participants work at their own pace as their schedules allow.

There is no charge, but dress comfortably and bring a mat for floor work.

Heart and Hand Garden

St. Stephen’s Congregational Garden was dedicated on May 17th, 2009.  The purpose of this garden is to provide not only fresh food for the Redemption Diner, the local Food Bank, the VA Cooperative Family Nutrition program, but also for everyone in the congregation who wants a share.

Many hands are needed to help maintain the ever growing garden – sowing, watering, weeding, gleaning, and preserving.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

The ladies of St. Stephen’s Church have been active in keeping St. Stephen’s going.  The first recorded instance was about 1865 (after the church had been burned during the Civil War).  The ladies paid the pastors salary and assisting in holding services in nearby homes and at a local school.  Some of the current things that the ECW is supporting with St. Stephen’s is support to Christian Formation; purchase of kitchen/bath supplies; support to Habitat for Humanity, christian Children’s Fund, Fauquier Family Shelter, People Helping People, and Fauquier Free Clinic.

ECW meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the church and generally last about one hour.  The main order of business is planning for our next event.  All are welcome to the meetings and to assist in any event or happening.

Episcopal Church Men (ECM)

ECM was founded in 2010 , to provide opportunities for fellowship, worship and service  for the men of our parish.  We’re new and growing.

ECM is open to all men and young men of the parish. We meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6PM during the school year and a more relaxed schedule during the summer.  We enjoy good fellowship and good food. We participate in projects that support the ministry of the parish.   Our highlights from 2011 are the Chili Cook Off and the Pan Cake Supper that raised $588 for the summer mission trips.  ECM is a good way to plug into activities at St. Stephens.

Check the schedule online or contact our Co-Chairs   Spence Curtis 703 791 2735 or Greg Miller 540-788 3580

Youth Mission Team

…..on a mission helping others.  The St. Stephens Church Mission Team starts preparing for their mission trips one year in advance.  All money necessary for transportation/housing/food is raised by the team through various fund raisers.  Participation is voluntary, however, it is usually a much anticipated adventure.  They have helped in such places as:  Hurley, Virginia; Mission by the Bay, Mississippi (Katrina cleanup); Monican Indians at Natural Bridge, Virginia; Welsh, West Virginia and Franklin, West Virginia.

Elk Run Preservation Site

In 1999, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church led a Community effort in acquiring a historical property and archaeologically located, defined and preserved the foundation of a 1750s Anglican Church in Elk Run, Fauquier County, Virginia.  The property was donated by Ned Browning, a descendent of the Anglican Church’s first Minister, Rev. James Keith and maternal grandfather of Chief Justice John Marshall.  The archaeological effort was conducted from November 1999 until October 2006.  Conversion of the archaeological site to a Historical Church Park started in November 2006.  The construction of a Mini-Museum over a re-excavated segment of the old Church foundation was completed in August 2010.

As funds become available, the history of the area, its first inhabitants, the Church, its first Minister, the seven year archaeological effort and Park preservation effort will be highlighted on the Mini-Museum walls and will contain a video documentary of the effort.  Specific details on this ten year effort can be found on our Elk Run Church Web Site at www.elkrunchurch.org.

Redemption Diner

St. Stephen’s parishioners are working with Church of the Word and Christian Community Fellowship Church to prepare and deliver meals to the homebound and those in need in the community.

Redemption Diner started by serving meals to 10 people in the community and now ‘diners’ average around 62.

Language of Letting Go Gatherings

Valuing this Moment is One Lesson We Learn.  This moment, we are right where we need to be, right where we are meant to be.  How often we waste our time and energy wishing we were someone else, were doing something else, or were someplace else.  We may wish our present circumstances were different.

God, help me let go of my need to be someone other than who I am today.  Help me dive fully into the present moment.  I will accept and surrender to my present moments – the difficult ones and the easy ones, trusting the whole process.  I will stop trying to control the process; instead, I will relax and let myself experience it.

Who:               Small group, seeking healthy relationships

When:             Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. or

                                          6:00 p.m. top 7:00 p.m.
